La Colombia Olvidada

Digital book

Case N.1

Reading has always been a source of inspiration for me. I am an 'aesthetic' reader, and the mere act of having a book in front of my eyes generates meaning. For me, words become shapes, and shapes become stories.

This was my experience reading "La Colombia Olvidada", a printed book that compiles the personal testimony of Colombia's Ombudsman during the tumultuous period the country went through between 2016-2020.

For this work, I translated the written text into an immersive, visual e-book, re-creating the reading 'experience' via digital interactions. In a Colombia told by pictures and short texts, I aimed for a natural transition from the written to the visual modes.

The design guidelines were based on the printed book's design, and my work was to bring its essence to the digital world. A great challenge, as books have always been close to me.

The e-book is accessible through a QR code on the book cover, and you can find it here www.lacolombiaolvidada.com

SMS Global

Project N.2

Website

2019

Melbourne-based SMS Global provides messaging services to large corporate customers in Australia, Dubai, San Diego and Auckland.

To someone like myself who speaks design as a language and has a unique affinity to words and letters, this was a golden opportunity to bring my game.

I hit the ground running to get up to speed on the industry and the messaging market.

Then I took a leading role in designing the website icon collection and developed brand-aligned fonts, site images and action sequences, and graphics were the key for the new image from the art direction angle.

SMS.me

Project N.3

Website

2020

Thinking of letters as shapes, shapes that surround us, shapes that tell stories. This was my starting point when I created this logo and, later on, the full website.

SMS.me is a company that provides low-price bulk SMS in Australia. I played around with the names' shapes and turned them into a significant composition element. It made the concept instantly clear by accentuating the idea of the dots forming conversation bubbles, which added valuable insight to represent the primary services of the product.

We created a simple, clean and informative website for customers to learn about their services and how to use the platform to send SMS. I designed the website's identity, website, and custom illustrations.

Trust your heart

Project N.4

Branding

2020

When the pandemic hit, and I found myself unemployed, I took it as a timely opportunity to take my design services online and started creating this site. (The one you are currently navigating).

As I spent days pouring over the work of artists I admired, in a moment of quiet despair, the words “trust your heart” came to me. This felt like a message to “trust my creative spirit”. I found solace and hidden meaning in these words. After all, is there no art without heart, nor heart without art?

The design I shared below is what followed as a connecting thought to like-minded individuals who identify as entrepreneurs, artists and creators. Through this new creative step, I was so emboldened that I designed two products to sell on Etsy: a tote bag and a t-shirt. Surprisingly, I got to make some sales, but most importantly, I built self-trust to bring out my work to the world.
